Slash Dementia
The Slasher movie is probably my favourite genre. There is always something very unsettling about being hunted down by a masked murderer with only your death on his mind.
Hatchet 2 (2010)
Director: Adam Green
Starring: Danielle Harris, Tony Todd, Kane Hodder
Format: Cinema
Victor Crowley is back and this time he's pissed off. OK so he was pissed off in the first Hatchet so nothing new here. What is new here is Dannielle Harris taking over the role as Mary Beth, the sole survivor from the original movie. Now she seeks out the help of Rev Zombie who employs the help of a posse to try and rid the swamp of the legend of Victor Crowley.
This follow up doesn't break any new ground and I suppose who would want it. Hatchet was an old school slasher which didn't hold back on the red stuff and had all the elements present to make Jason Voorhees proud. This sequel is probably more violent with the gore turned up to 11. All the FX are real too which is a real breath of fresh air.
The movie itself is not as good as Hatchet though. It kinda feels rushed, the characters are pretty anonymous, Harris' character is about the only one we care about and not even that much. Rev. Zombie is pretty entertaining and well played by Tony 'Candyman' Todd but even he becomes very repetitive. All of the other characters are just victims and you find yourself cheering on Crowley to off them all.
The acting in this is pretty solid for a slasher movie with horror icons Harris(Halloween), Todd(Candyman) , Hodder(Friday 13th) leading the performances. Their are also some good cameos from other horror icons.
I don't want to seem like I'm ragging on this as I did enjoy it and will defo be getting this on Bluray when it's released.
Rating 6/10 Great modern slasher and fun popcorn movie with fantastic gore!
